Y O U T H

If you’ve ever attended a High School Ministry service at Mariners Church, odds are you’ve heard the word “youth...” a lot. For some of you, it is a culture you fully embrace -- the students help run HSM. For others, you might question it.

It’s also likely that you have also heard an excess of negativity towards younger generations in your day to day lives. “They are weaker socially, have everything easy, and aren’t difference-makers,” some say. In reality, young people today are one of the most influential and opinionated generations. Our voices, aided by social media and word of mouth, are louder than ever.

Why not use our voices?

1 Timothy 4:12 says, “Let no one despise you for your youth, but set the believers an example in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.”

As if you needed any more convincing, the great Whitney Houston echoes this sentiment in her hit song, Greatest Love of All.

I believe the children are our are future , teach them well and let them lead the way ....
Because the greatest
Love of all is happening to me
I found the greatest
Love of all inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all

In all seriousness, to succeed, we have to believe in ourselves and lead the way. God will do the rest. Affirmations and outside commentary are important, but we need to be strong ourselves and develop trust in things that are out of our hands.

With a significant platform and God in our hearts, we can be big leaders. Our impact doesn’t have to just be in HSM though; It is our job to be the church OUTSIDE of a church. Our school campuses, workplaces, and homes can all benefit from our youthful leadership and enthusiasm.

As Youth Culture Weekend approaches, it is a perfect time to display our way of living out the word of God. There is so much opportunity to reach the teenagers of Orange County and expand our ministry. We may be young, but that shouldn’t be a limitation.
